About Therapy

We take this journey together.

When you step into a therapy session with me, you’re not just walking into an office but beginning a journey. This journey is where your well-being is the primary focus, and your path forward is defined not by expectations or timelines but at your own pace.

Therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all process, so I tailor each session to fit your unique experience, needs, and challenges.

My goal is to help you better understand yourself, navigate obstacles with a renewed sense of strength, and cultivate the tools you need to thrive.

What can you expect from working with me?

For many, therapy is a blend of vulnerability, introspection, and growth. It’s not always easy, but it is always transformative. Together, we’ll create a safe space where you can explore thoughts and emotions that may have been difficult to face alone. Through our work, we’ll uncover patterns, reframe beliefs, and build practical strategies for managing life’s ups and downs.

Over time, you may start noticing shifts – small moments of clarity or more considerable transformations in how you relate to yourself and others. Maybe you’ll begin approaching life’s challenges more confidently or find that old patterns no longer grip you. Each session is an opportunity for discovery, and I’ll be there with you, offering support and encouragement every step.

Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, stress, relationship struggles, or simply feeling lost in the chaos of modern life, my work is here to help. I’m committed to helping you uncover your inner strength and supporting you in creating a life that feels purposeful and authentic.

If you’re reading this, you’ve already taken a huge first step – acknowledging the need for support. I want you to know that reaching out for help is a brave and powerful move toward healing, not a sign of weakness. I’m here to walk with you as you continue this path.

About Melissa Moxlow Swan, MS, LPC, LPC-S

AdminMaking the proper connection is essential.

I’ve always believed that genuine connection and understanding can heal. My mission is to create a space where you can feel seen, heard, and understood – without judgment. My approach to therapy is rooted in empathy, respect, and collaboration. I want to meet you exactly where you are and help guide you toward a deeper understanding of yourself and your world.

Curiosity initiated my career as a therapist.

My interest in therapy began in my search for answers and understanding. As a child, I often felt there was more to discover about connecting with others and ourselves.

That curiosity led me to pursue training in psychology and therapy, eventually leading me to become a licensed professional in the field.

I’ve spent years honing my skills, learning from each client and each experience, and staying grounded in the belief that healing comes through connection and compassion.

The approach is unique to your needs.

I always strive to blend practical expertise and genuine care into my practice. I recognize that no two people are the same, and no one path to healing looks identical.

My approach is always flexible and individualized, ensuring you receive the support that best serves your needs.

DogOutside of my professional life…

I can often be found at a local dog park or outside having fun with my dogs. I believe in the power of relationships to bring balance and perspective to life, and I spend time cultivating relationships with those who are meaningful to me.

Ultimately, my work isn’t just a career – it’s a calling. Helping others discover their path to healing, growth, and a more connected life brings me purpose and fulfillment.

I’m deeply honored to be part of your journey, and I look forward to possibly working together.

The experience of anxiety, depression, trauma symptoms, and everyday stressors can create real barriers to feeling grounded, connected, and fulfilled. Many of us carry our stories quietly, unsure of how to make sense of them, and we can lose touch with the deeper parts of who we are. Life becomes busy, overwhelming, or confusing—and the path back to ourselves can feel hard to find.

In my work, I focus on empowering each person to reconnect with their authentic self, natural strengths, and inner wisdom. I believe healing grows from understanding, curiosity, and a relationship where you feel truly accepted. My approach is rooted in careful listening, collaboration, and compassionate warmth. I want to hear your stories, sit with what’s heavy, and work together to gently peel back the layers so things can begin to make sense again.

I integrate attachment theory, EMDR, parts work, mindfulness, and goal-focused strategies, along with traditional therapy approaches, to help clients build the skills and insight needed to move toward their best selves.

With teens, our work often focuses on finding their voice, building a sense of belonging, strengthening emotional and relational skills, and helping them feel more in control of their inner and outer worlds. I believe deeply in their inner goodness and work to help them see it, too.

In trauma work, I listen carefully to the stories held in each person’s body and mind. I support clients of all ages in integrating the parts of themselves that have been fragmented by pain or fear. Using EMDR, parts work, Cue-Centered Therapy, somatic tools, and mindfulness, we create a path toward wholeness, safety, and self-understanding.

I completed my undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Environmental Policy at Clarkson University, followed by clinical training in Social Work at the University of Pittsburgh. I have years of experience supporting teens, families, and young adults as they navigate obstacles, uncover the root causes of their struggles, and develop the tools needed to handle both big and everyday stressors.

Above all, I help clients explore how their early stories shape their current experiences and reconnect with the inner wisdom they already carry. You have more clarity and strength within you than you may realize—my role is simply to help you access it.

About Emily Brown, LCSW

Emily Headshot

Hi, I’m Emily. If you’re here, it’s likely because you’re navigating something difficult — and taking the step to seek support may feel daunting. I want you to know that you don’t have to face it alone.

Over the course of my career, I have had the honor of supporting individuals from early childhood through older adulthood in a wide range of settings, including schools, courtrooms, homes, correctional facilities, community environments, and therapy offices, as well as via telehealth. I have worked extensively with individuals experiencing trauma, grief and loss, serious health challenges, OCD, anxiety, and complex mental health symptoms.

My work is grounded in both evidence-based practice and a strong belief in the healing power of human connection. In our sessions, you can expect warmth, kindness, non-judgment, and thoughtful humor alongside focused, structured interventions designed to help you reach your goals.

I view therapy as a collaborative process. As your therapist, I will work with you as a co-investigator — helping you build insight, develop new skills, and strengthen your ability to make decisions that align with your values. Together, we will explore the experiences, biology, neurology, systems, and beliefs that have shaped your life, and we will work intentionally toward the changes you want to make.

My clinical approach draws from Family Systems Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Self-Compassion, Person-Centered Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.

Why I Do This Work

I have been drawn to helping and healing work from a young age. In my teens, I began studying family systems theory and practicing mindfulness, journaling, and creative forms of self-care. While in college, I worked with children to interrupt destructive intergenerational patterns through education and mentoring.

As a clinical social worker, I am passionate about finding effective, efficient strategies that help people move toward their best possible lives. As a mother to two neurodivergent children — including a child with OCD and anxiety — I bring both professional expertise and lived experience to my work. I understand how these challenges can impact not only individuals, but entire family systems, and I have a wide range of tools to support meaningful change.

If you’re ready to get started, I’d be honored to work with you.
