How I Help

Therapeutic Modalities

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Our thoughts and behaviors influence each other, by breaking down our emotions and actions in terms of action-behavior-consequence, we can begin to see where we might influence the chain in a more desirable direction.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) includes for different elements that guide the therapy. They are:

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness
How we interact with the world around us is important. It is important to feel connected to other people, animals, and a sense of purpose. This element of DBT focuses on how to improve our relationship with those around us.

  • Emotional Regulation
Emotional regulation is essential to healthy relationships. Regulating our emotions helps us foster a sense of resiliency within ourselves and focus on what deserves our emotional energy.

  • Distress Tolerance
Distress tolerance is similar to emotional regulation in the sense that it is important to understand what level of stress what can work with and still be effective in our life. It is important to learn how to communicate our stress levels but also increase our ability to handle stress when it comes our way.

  • Mindfulness
The goal of the mindfulness module of DBT is to bring awareness to the other skills gained into our body. It is important to understand how our body handles our daily life. This can teach us how to navigate stress, joy, or other emotions in a more efficient and healthier way.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
The primary goal of acceptance and commitment therapy is to understand what elements we can work with and move on from, other elements need more attention. It is these elements of our lives that we need to either commit to changing or learn how to accept their role within our life and increase tolerance towards them.
